UQ Architectural School
Brisbane
Project Type: Education, Workplace
Year: 2021
Architect: BVN
Engineer: NDY Light
The corridors of UQ Architectural School have multiple functions. Apart from general movement, the halls also feature wall displays and hotdesk zones.
The goal of the lighting design was to create a dramatic lamp post effect with an 'invisible' ceiling to increase the theatrical effect.
This aim was brought to life by using a combination of two Lumen8 Architectural Lighting products:
- Roll+ Surface Mount Downlights: These luminaires have been powder coated using Dulux Dark Bronze and are mounted to specially design wall brackets that protrude from each column into the space. This custom colour and mounting style allows the fittings themselves to disappear whilst creating a distinct scallop of light on the wall, highlighting the display boards and desks below.
- Covert Dark Reflector Downlights: To add to the effect of the Roll+ luminaires, Our Covert dark light luminaires with bronze reflectors were installed. These fitting were selected for their ability to prevent vertical light spilling onto the walls whilst also producing a uniform spread of light onto the corridor floors.
