Jan Murphy Gallery

The brief for Jan Murphy Gallery was to create an open, expansive atmosphere whilst limiting shadowing within the gallery.

The solution was to approach the lighting design using the method of blanket lighting.

This method of gallery lighting evenly illuminates the vertical plane of the wall. Blanket lighting is growing in popularity and best used for larger artworks or exhibitions that should be viewed as a cohesive collection. It will give the impression the artworks are an integrated component of the space.

The outcome was achieved using the Smooth track spot by Solis. This contemporary, minimalist luminaire features an ultra-wide 107° beam, a rare feature amongst track spots, which is perfect for creating a wall wash effect.
